Summer series (Day 6)

More than half way through the summer series and things are certainly hotting up on the lake. The welcome addition of a visiting skipper, Gary Benson (GBR 036) from Fleetwood focused everyones minds. An extremely experienced skipper with an excellent knowledge of the rule book was just what the Burwain skippers needed to improve their concentration. Conditions were challenging, as usual, around the windward mark with light airs becoming very flukey due to the proximity to the dam wall. After the tension and hubbub of last weekends Northern District Championship racing today was a much quieter affair. With only 4 skippers on the start line the day had the potential to produce predictable and repetitive results. What happened could not have been further from that expectation. Light winds dictated A rigs all day with a brief forray into B's for a couple of races mid morning. Changeable wind directions added to the fun of the day but the real surprise and delight was the closeness of the racing. Only a fool would have placed a bet. Summer series (Day 4) Northern district TT

August 13th and Burwain RC Lasers hosted yet another tremendous open meeting, this time the final Northern District Travellers Trophy meet of the summer series. As an indication of the rising standards at the club, 3 Burwain skippers counted in the top 5. John Sharman won the day, with Hugo Chandor taking 4th place and Richard Whittle 5th. Graham Waugh, notching a second place in the first race may well have scored in the top 5 but had to retire after lunch and hence collected maximum scores in all the afternoon races.
