Spring Series (Day 4)

Once again, the lake does not disappoint in providing Burwain skippers new challenges. With a fresh ENE wind ensuring that the breeze was coming straight down the lake from left to right when observed from the viewing platform, one might have assumed that, with no apparent obstacles within 1/4 mile it would be plain sailing. But no ... C rig was the order of the day. (Chandor unwisely tried a B for one race and immediately regreted it.) With six skippers on the line and standards improving across the fleet, the racing was always going to be tight and so it proved with plenty of photo finishes yet again all the way down the fleet. What no one had allowed for were the extraordinary wind pocket

Spring Series Day 3

What a bizarre days' sailing! The day started with A rigs and extremely light breezes. Although race cancellations were never an issue (there was always just enough to give the fleet hope) it was still a start to the day for those clever at spotting clues. Without question the skipper to beat for the first 6 races was Peter Hilton (GBR 034). Seemingly unstoppable and with a stream of good decisions he took two wins and was never out of the top three. Luckily for the rest of the fleet (but not for Peter) he had to retire for the afternoon. Hugo Chandor (GBR 455) almost had the reverse day. With his boat failing and then the club boats giving up he missed the first four races but shared a boat

Spring Series 2018 (Day 2)

The first day of the Spring Series (perhaps unwisely scheduled for April 1st) was rendered void as only 3 skippers made it to the start line and fewer than 6 races were completed due to mechanical problems and birthday celebrations! So on to Day 2 and what a day! Six skippers turned out, (hopefully this will be the minimum number on the start line until our ranks are swelled with new members). The lake, so often affording a windy and choppy challenge for RC Lasers even with with D rigs, offered instead a millpond. The water at times appeared as glass with the only ripples caused by the occasional surfacing and diving of a cormorant doubtless seeking to take advantage of the peace and to catc
