Winter Series (Day 4) The Gloves Are Off

January 9, 2017

A remarkable days racing. With more wind than forecast, tho' still on A rigs, 5 skippers took to the water. All skippers elected to jettison the handicap system, used for the last two race days, and to start together. Whether it was Excess Alcohol, Christmas Turkey or New Years Resolutions we'll never know, but the skippers usually near the back of the fleet in 2016 have all magically found new speed for 2017. Glyn Howson, absent, for the last couple of months, was back with impact scoring 2nds and 3rds consistently. Fran Fairclough took two impressive 2nds and Peter Hilton has clearly benefited from the break, returning with considerably increased speed. The gloves are now most definitely off!

Congratulations are also due to visitor Andy, a complete sailing novice who within just a few patient hours was putting one of the club boats through its paces and then joining in the racing.
