The winter series has finally come to a close. With suitably cold winds to greet the intrepid faithful 10 races settled the series.
B rigs were the order of the day with, as the wind dropped, A rigs chosen for the last 3 races. A staggered start was introduced by the 3rd race with tremendous ensuing results. Both Peter Hilton (GBR 034) and Fran Fairclough (GBR 701) starting ahead habitually led the fleet for most, if not all of the race. Struggling to catch up, with occasional successes, were Hugo Chandor (GBR 455) and Richard Whittle (GBR 801).
By the end of the day it was generally agreed by all that our boats had been sabotaged with magnets that responded to the waves emanating from the windward and leeward buoys. No one escaped the attraction however we had to accept that, magnets aside, the weather had been kind. Congratulations go to Fran Fairclough for wresting the overall 2nd place from Richard Whittle.
So. From next Sunday, (12th March) the Spring Series begins...
