Five skippers braved the elements today. The approach from the car park to the clubhouse gave a clear indication of the day ahead. Water from the reservoir overspill smashed loudly into the gulley with a roar one might have associated with a sizeable waterfall. Wind and rain combined to make conditions extremely challenging for all. Peter Hilton gamely launched the rescue boat and set a course designed to enable skippers to sail from within the clubhouse and yet still enjoy perfect viewing.
Despite some running repairs, par for the course in such ferocious conditions, 8 races were completed with skippers usually opting to gybe instead of tack toward any windward marks. Doubtless the reward for the greatest spring surprise goes to newcomer Graham Waugh (GBR 476) who, sailing an RC Laser for the first time and using a C rig when everyone else rightly chose D's, still took two 1st places and finished in overall 3rd. Remember that name! Congratulations, too to Richard Whittle (GBR 801) and Fran Fairclough (GBR 701) who took 1st and 2nd respectively.
