Burwain RC Lasers again play host to the Northern District Travellers Trophy. Results for Day 9 of the Spring series were taken from those Burwain skippers taking part in the TT.
7 skipppers arrived from 3 local clubs, Blackpool and Fylde, Fleetwood and Southport. Disappointingly only 3 Burwain skippers turned out to join the action, nevertheless the total of 10 boats on the start line made for some excellent racing.
John Sharman arrived early and set a testing course that after the first race was shortened slightly to keep all boat numbers clearly visible. Strong gusts throughout the day kept all skippers on their toes, thankfully with fewer collisions than might have been expected in the conditions.
Sean Holbeche (GBR 91) enjoyed another day at Burwain (he won the November Travellers Trophy meeting here last year) and emphatically took the honours once more. As if to demonstrate his superiority in the last race, after an appalling start hampered by a major windshift that left him trailing behind the entire fleet at the windward mark he gradually picked off all the boats ahead of him, one by one to take yet another 1st place.
John Sharman (GBR 428) and Hugo Chandor (GBR 455) contested the minor places with Sharmen eventually securing the 2nd place on countback since they had both scored identical points overall during the day.
Many thanks to all that made the journey and in doing so made it an extremely enjoyable days racing for all.
