The long awaited Area Championships returned to Burwain. Once again the number of visitors was disappointing, with only Eric Austwick (GBR 644, Fleetwood RC Lasers) making the journey down the M65 to our lake.
The weather looked grim with fine cold drizzle and very light breezes promising to be the norm for the day ahead.
At 1100hrs we paid our respects in silence to the fallen, and from then on the gloves were off!
As if by magic the winds slowly picked up race by race and by race 4 A rigs were changed to B and the sun was shining.
12 races were sailed in all, with John Sharman (GBR 428) - the first time we had seen him all season - reminding us that he still knows what he's doing. 9 wins and 3 seconds were enough to ensure a clear victory, leaving Hugo Chandor (GBR 455) and Richard Whittle (GBR 801) to fight over the minor places. Congratulations to our visitor Eric who, sailing on our difficult lake for the first time, took 4th from Darius Fard who was a creditable 5th in his first Area Championship meeting.
