Yet again wonderful weather tempted plenty of skippers, old and new, to the club for another tremendous day of racing. With John Sharman returning, and the visitors John, Liam and Steve (dubbed quickly JLS) coming to give RC Lasers a go, the deck was looking busy.
With the exception from a few on-the-line collisions, accidents were fairly few and far between, which helped to ensure good racing. Close finishes abounded with most of the fleet rounding the final leeward mark together in almost every race.
Hugo Chandor would have taken the spoils (with 7 wins out of 12) had he not settled for taking the scores earned by John, a newcomer, who borrowed his boat. Although John finished last in both his races it was remarkable how well he stayed in touch with what is now an extremely competitive fleet. Clearly a novice with potential! we hope to see them all again.
Sharman did enough to share first place with Richard Whittle taking 3rd.
Yet again, as the fleet continues to improve, by the end of the day there were no skippers who had not posted at least 1 top 3 finish.
No sailing next week, but some of the fleet will be travelling across the county to compete in the Northern District Series. We wish them luck.
