Regular Sunday racing once again doubled as an Open Meeting, as Burwain hosted a summer series Northern Area Championship event.
We were delighted to welcome no fewer than 4 skippers who made the journey from Fleetwood, together with Trevor who once again gave us his time to adjudicate and keep score. Thanks too, to Tony who, once again has submitted a report to Yachts and Yachting, keeping Burwain RCL on the map? (Where would we be without these 'once agains'?)
A steady wind, rising gently at times, allowed all to get maximum benefit from their A rigs. (A couple of skippers changed to B's for a race or two, before thinking better of it and reverting to the larger sail.)
A two lap course with a substantial beat from leeward to windward afforded plenty of opportunity for tactics to split the fleet. Those making the right decisions were able to make substantial gains over the rest of the fleet. With an 11 strong fleet a good start was imperative and with all skippers getting away fast, winners were hard to predict.
The top 3 places were hard fought, all eventually going to Burwain skippers:
1. Hugo Chandor (GBR 455)
2. Graham Waugh (GBR 018)
3. Richard Whittle (GBR 801)
